Hanging AMI Paintings
This is suggested procedure only. The AMI paintings are large and heavy. Please plan ahead and proceed carefully.
All ten AMI paintings may be mounted with any side up.
AMI 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 are approximately the same size. All are fitted with four brass hardware mounting brackets. They may be managed by one person; but, assistance is advised. AMI 1 -8 may be mounted with the primary hook and one or more screws; but securing all four mounting points is recommended.
AMI 9 and 10 are approximately twice the size of the first eight paintings. They are also fitted with four brass brackets. The AMI 9 & 10 paintings must have all four brass brackets securely fastened to the mounting surface. Please do not attempt to hang these paintings without competent help.
Tools:
Hex wrench(s) (the hex head in mounting brackets is 2.5mm)
Screwdriver(s)
Drill and drill bits
Pencil (a center punch is helpful for marking holes)
Measuring tape or rule
Bubble level
Hammer (if anchors are used)
Ladder
Materials:
Hooks (The holes in the mounting hardware are 6.5mm diameter. Suggested hook diameter is less than 6mm.)
Anchors (To fit hooks)
Screws (Brackets are a brass color)
Anchors (To fit screws)
Tape to apply to edge of frame to protect it from tool marks (masking tape can be easily removed without leaving a residue)
Padding (blanket or plastic sheet)(not paper or anything with hard objects that might damage the painted surface)
Soft white cloth
Suggestions:
Insure that the mounting surface can safely support the painting.
Determine the placement of the top hook. (Suggestion: Centered. Two meters, 200cm, above the floor.)
Determine the drill size for the hook or anchor.
Drill hole with an upward angle so the hook will slant upward and the painting will stay against the wall.
Install the hook; or the anchor and the hook. Insure that the painting bracket will fit on the hook.
With a person on each side of the painting, lift and tilt the painting and place the top mounting bracket on the hook. Hold the painting against the wall. The hook is stronger near the wall. With the large paintings AMI 9 & 10, if the hook angles down, or the painting is not close to the wall, or the wall material is weak, the hook can tear loose. Keep the painting close to the wall until the additional brackets are secured with screws.
Holding the painting against the wall, swing it slightly to level and mark the screw holes for the three mounting brackets. Swing the painting clear of the marks and drill the holes for the screws or anchors. Install the anchors. Move the painting to align with the holes and secure with screws. This is the process that might damage the edge of the frame; so protecting the frame edges with tape is advised.
Cleanup:
The paintings are acrylic on canvas. They may be cleaned with clean water and a clean white soft cloth.
The glossy hard paint on the frames was applied by a German shop that makes kitchen cabinets. They may be cleaned with clean water and a soft cloth. Please do not use paper towels, abrasives or chemical cleaners.
